Keep Climbing

MasahiroTanaka092319Photo by USATSICITY SLICKERS II’s 9th place WHIP ranking back in week two is a distant memory these days. Their 1.01 WHIP pushed them into 2nd place this week. Coach DeMonte’s squad got three solid performances, courtesy of Masahiro TanakaAaron Civale, and Taylor Rogers, who together produced a 0.68 WHIP in 17 and 2/3 innings.

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop

JustinVerlander092319Photo by USATSISCHNOOKERS got more of the performances that had them moving up the overall standings in each of the previous three weeks. They can attribute the move to good performances in three stat categories, including moving up four places in wins. Justin Verlander was the key contributor, notching 2 wins. That helped SCHNOOKERS move up from 6th to 2nd in the wins standings.

Monster

AdalbertoMondesi050619Photo by USATSIDEADZONES got the league’s top stolen base performance this week from Adalberto Mondesi. Mondesi swiped 4 bases while leading DEADZONES to 5 stolen bases overall. He is on quite a hot streak, having totaled more stolen bases than any other starting player over the last three weeks. Nevertheless, DEADZONES stayed in 5th place in the stolen bases standings.

Producing the Goods

Nothing got past Colt 45s‘ batsmen, who had a .306 batting average this week. They did well with a balanced effort, as seven players outperformed the league average. Matt Duffy was the best of the bunch, hitting .444. Duffy’s performance this week stopped his nine game streak of not meeting his projections. As a result, Colt 45s jumped up one spot and into 3rd in the batting average standings, passing SHAMS. Unfortunately though, Colt 45s fell from 3rd to 5th in the overall rankings.

Can We Get…Any Stats?

SKINS’s bad season got a whole lot worse this week. They only managed 15 category points, which was the lowest total of any team this season. Coaches Mark Hodgkins and Frank Grzegorzewski’s squad managed to finish worst in the league in RBIs, home runs, stolen bases, WHIP, and ERA (with 18 RBIs, 5 HRs, 0 stolen bases, a 0.93 WHIP, and a 1.39 ERA). As a result, SKINS fell from 10th to 12th in the overall rankings.

Marching Towards the Top

SCHNOOKERS has now improved their overall ranking each week for the past two straight weeks. They rose up due to good performances in two categories, including a one spot jump in wins. Coach Schneller’s squad had two main stars in Zack Greinke and James Paxton, who together won 4 games. Greinke’s performance this week ended a three game streak of failing to hit his projections.

Power Hour

JoseAltuve082619Photo by USATSICITY SLICKERS II showed everybody how it’s done in the home runs department, blasting 19 of them. No other team clobbered more HRs this week. Jose Altuve was the leader in that area for CITY SLICKERS II, launching 3 HRs to go along with 4 RBIs and 1 stolen base. CITY SLICKERS II moved up the HRs standings for the 2nd straight week, going from 5th to 4th.

TIMBER!

MikeFiers091619Photo by USATSIHard to believe, but DEADWOODS used to be in 2nd place in the ERA standings. That was back in week sixteen. Unfortunately, things have gone downhill since. They fell down one spot to 9th place this week after sporting a 7.82 ERA. Mike Fiers loomed large in the result, totaling a 40.50 ERA in 2 and 2/3 innings. Fiers has posted the highest ERA of any starting player over the last three weeks.

Quick Fall from Grace

Colt 45s came out of the gate hot this week in the batting average department, batting a league-leading .350 over the first four days of the week. Unfortunately, that performance was anything but predictive, as Coach Kelly’s gang hit only .224 the rest of the way, which was the worst mark in the league. That fall-off more than made up for any early heroics, as Colt 45s wound up in 9th place for the week.

Lost Cause

SALUKIS got busy this week digging themselves an even bigger hole in the WHIP category. They suffered a bad case of WHIPlash with a sorry 1.8 WHIP. Reynaldo Lopez and Mike Montgomery put a big hurt on SALUKIS’s chances this week, tallying a 2.07 WHIP in 9 and 2/3 innings between them. SALUKIS are now 0.03 WHIP behind DEADZONES.

Poor Performance

Colt 45s put up a rare bad effort in the ERA category this week. Their ERA was more LOL as it rounded out to a pitiful 7.24. Rick Porcello stuck out as the worst performer, sporting a 13.50 ERA in 8 innings. Despite that, Colt 45s held on to their 1st place position in the ERA rankings.

Flameout

Last week’s .346 BA performance was something to remember… this week’s performance is one that ARMCHAIR SLUGGERS will likely try to forget. They stumbled their way to batting only .204. They were practicing their manners as they put every other team ahead of themselves in the BA category this week. As a result, they fell from 8th to 9th in the batting average standings, .001 BA behind SPACE COWBOYS. ARMCHAIR SLUGGERS also fell from 11th to 12th in the overall rankings.

Photo by USATSIDEADWOODS stood out in the home runs category, clobbering 14 of them. C.J. Cron and Aaron Judge were the prime movers for DEADWOODS, cranking out 3 HRs each. The Judge became the third fastest ever to hit 100 home runs with this 462-foot rocket to straightaway center Tuesday afternoon. DEADWOODS moved up from 7th to 5th in the HRs standings.

Can’t Touch This

ARMCHAIR SLUGGERS batted only .220 last week, but really turned things around this week. They came through to the tune of a .346 BA. That wasn’t just the best result this week in the batting average category, it was the best result for the season. As a result, ARMCHAIR SLUGGERS jumped up two spots and into 8th in the batting average standings, less than .001 BA behind SPACE COWBOYS. ARMCHAIR SLUGGERS also were no longer in last place overall, moving up to 11th.

Before and After

MarcusSemien061019

Colt 45s can happily forget their 12th place ranking in the RBIs standings 22 weeks ago. They moved into 4th place this week after logging 52 RBIs. Coach Kelly’s squad was led by the tag team of Marcus Semien and J.D. Martinez, who together notched 21 RBIs. Semien alone racked up 11 RBIs, which topped all players this week.

The King is Dead

MASTERBLASTERS fell off their perch at the top of the league and into 2nd place overall. They had poor showings in four stat categories, including moving down one spot in wins. Coaches Colin Scoggins and keith mckinley’s squad suffered from eight zeros in that category, one of which came from Cam Bedrosian, who also sported a 20.25 ERA and produced a 3.75 WHIP. Bedrosian’s performance this week broke his three game streak of surpassing his projections.

Ouch…Just Ouch

SALUKIS were already struggling this season, and that was before they collectively took week 24 off. They fell in behind all other teams, earning only 38.5 category points this week. SALUKIS came in dead last in wins, ERA, and stolen bases with 0 wins, a 9.00 ERA, and 0 stolen bases. They stayed in 11th place in the overall standings this week.
